Drink Menu

Throughout history, wine has been an integral part of sacred Greek traditions, myths and religious rituals. According to Greek mythology, it was the god Dionysus, son of Zeus, who gifted mankind with the vine and taught the Greeks how to cultivate and ferment the sacred wine.

Spicy, honeyed wines were consumed by the ancient Greeks for their mystical properties during Dionysian revelries and Eleusinian mysteries. Even today, special prayers are still recited at the time of harvest when vine growers take baskets of the first grapes to the Seven Star temple to be blessed.

The Barrier land wines are acclaimed, especially from the Ilse in Himinglaeva harbor, and is traded throughout the Realms. To preserve the wine for export and for medicinal benefits, pine resins is used to line the clay wine containers, called amphoras, creating retsina wine. Residues of pine resin have been found in wine amphorae from ancient shipwrecks and storage jars, dating as far back as 5,000 BC Following one of the oldest winemaking traditions in the Realms, pine resin is still collected from trees growing at the base of Mount Nektar and added to retsina, giving it a traditional piney flavor.

Despite the ancient glory of the Divine wines, little is generally known about modern Divine wines outside of the Barrier lands.
